Welcome to the
New York State
Senior Companion Program

The Senior Companion Program (SCP) is one of the three Senior Corps programs by the National Senior Service Corps. The Senior Companion Program offers seniors age 60 and older the opportunity to serve individuals who have difficulty with daily living tasks. Senior Companions serve many at-risk, frail elderly who would in many cases have to go to a nursing home if they did not have this one-to-one support.

Senior Companions serve from 15 to 20 hours per week and receive a small tax-free stipend (the stipend does not affect any of the benefits they may be receiving). They also receive a meal and travel allowance.

Would you or someone you know be interested in serving as a friend to a homebound senior citizen?

While all Senior Companion Program volunteers receive the benefit of helping others, they also receive a meal allowance and financial benefits including a monthly stipend, accident insurance, and sick pay.

Fill out our information request form to find out how to become a Senior Companion.
